ICPC to begin another round of constituency projects monitoring in Kano
The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) says it has concluded arrangement to continue its tracking and monitoring of constituency projects in Kano state by the end of January 2021.
Solacebase reports that the tracking and monitoring of constituency projects by the ICPC that started in 2019 is geared towards investigating fraudulent procurement practices in the award of contracts for constituency and executive projects and make recoveries on projects or contracts confirmed to have been inflated or in which contractors under-performed or did not perform at all, and track contracting companies for all statutory compliance.
New Kano ICPC Commissioner, Malam Ibrahim Abubakar Garba who assumed duty on Monday stated this in an exclusive interview with Solacebase.
He said with the importance the Commission attaches to the initiative, a unit was established at its headquarters headed by an assistant director to oversee the exercise.

Malam Ibrahim Abubakar Garba said the commission encourages people who voluntarily give information to it so that acts of corruption can be stem.
‘’You see according to the ICPC act 2000, the law stipulated in clear terms on how we should protect the identity of any person providing the commission with information with utmost secrecy so that no harms come the way of such person,’’ said the ICPC Commissioner.

‘’We encourage people to voluntarily provide us information so that perpetrators of corrupt practices are brought to books to serve as a deterrent to others’’
‘’People should develop boldness and fearlessness in reporting any corrupt practice to the commission for action to be taken’’
Awareness creation
He said the commission would sustain its sensitization drive and create new areas of campaign for people to take the fight against corruption as their own and not for the agency alone.
The ICPC Commissioner noted that nothing will hinder the fight against corruption and other related offences with more projects coming onboard where every stakeholder including students will be involved from the grassroots level.
According to him, ‘We have a program tagged ‘’catch them young’’ aimed at encouraging students to understand the dangers associated with corruption and how it destroys the society. With this, at a tender age, they would understand the need to join hands in the fight against the scourge. That is why we created anti-corruption clubs in secondary schools. We are planning to do the same at primary schools.’’
