Iniubong Umoren: Court sentences Uduak Akpan to death for murder

A High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Capital,  on Thursday , convicted Uduak-Abasi Akpan for the murder of  a jobseeker , Iniubong Umoren

The trial judge, Justice Bassey Nkanang in his judgement also sentenced Akpan to life imprisonment for rape.

Justice Nkanang however discharged and acquitted the second and third defendants, Mr. Frank Akoan and daughter Anwan-Bassey Akpan respectively.

In 2021, Umoren was declared missing but was later found dead on April 30.

She was said to have been lured to meet the suspect over a fake job interview, while awaiting mobilisation for the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

The suspect was arrested by the state police command after widespread outcry.

Reacting to the development, the deceased lawyer told the press that justice has been served.

The deceased family expressed relief at the judgement.

It could be recalled that when Akpan was paraded by the police in 2021, he admitted that he uses reverse psychology to lure female victims and sleep with them.
