Insecurity: Minister, IG, Others Appear Before Reps Committee

The Minister of Police Affairs, Mr. Mohammed Maigari; Inspector General of Police, Mr. Abubakar Adamu and Chairman, Police Service Commission, Mr. Musliu Smith, on Tuesday appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs.

The appearance was to resolve some “minor issues” between the agencies.

The chairman of the committee, Rep. Usman Kumo (APC-Gombe), said that the committee invited the government officials to mediate disagreements between the agencies relating to the employment of new police officers.

He said that to address insecurity in the country, there was a need for synergy between all relevant agencies.

“We are here to mediate on minor issues between members of the same family.

“We hope that at the end of this meeting, we can all come out and work together peacefully,” the chairman said.

Kumo said that the agencies would also brief the committee on what had been so far done to address insecurity in the country.

In his remarks, Maigeri commended the committee for inviting all the parties with the intention to resolving the matter.

He appreciated the committee for the courage and desire to ensure peace and harmony between the agencies.

The minister said that harmony among security agencies was important as security matters were of paramount importance to President Muhammadu Buhari.

He expressed confidence in the committee to resolve all the issues,  assuring the committee that the agencies would do everything possible to arrive at an amicable solution. (NAN)
