Journalists Forum mourns Rawlings, Balarabe

The Journalists International Forum for Migration (JIFORM) on Thursday mourned the passing away of a former Ghanaian President, Jerry Rawlings, describing him as a great liberator and one of the ever-lived Pan-Africanists.

JIFORM’s President, Akinola Abayomi, in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday also condoled with Nigerians over the death of a former Governor of old Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa.

Solacebase reports that JIFORM is a media foundation with over 250 journalists covering migration across the world.

According to the statement, Ghanaian’s ex-President, Jerry Rawlings, 73, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, while Balarabe Musa, 84, Second Republic Governor of old Kaduna State and National Leader of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), died on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020.

In the statement, Mr Abayomi said that Rawlings left his footprints on the sands of time as a game-changer in Ghana.

“During his lifetime, he spoke against slavery of Africans on several occasions through irregular migration today; an illustrious son of the African continent has gone to meet his creator.

“Regrettably, JIFORM missed not meeting him in person, having set up a meeting to engage him in January 2021 in Ghana during a proposed African Media Summit on migration.

“It is not how far for Rawlings, but we can attest to how well he had served his people. Our prayers are with his family, Ghana and entire Africa at large,” he said.

He also acknowledged the late Musa, buried on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020, as an icon of progress and a nation builder, stating that both men (Musa and Rawlings) were fallen heroes.

“Balarabe was a man who stood for the common good of society. He was committed to a united Nigeria beyond the rhetoric of others who played politics of tribalism and destruction.

“Balarabe was journalists’ delight that would never shy away from attending to media issues at any hour of the day.

“No wonder those who conspired to impeach him as the first governor to be so controversially removed from office, because of his zero tolerance for corruption, perished with history.

“While the history of Nigeria would be incomplete without reference to Balarabe, those Kaduna state lawmakers that plotted against him have died with history.
