Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital on Friday successfully performed first spine surgery in the hospital.
This was contained in a statement issued by AKTH Deputy Director Public Relations, Hauwa Muhd Abdullahi, and sent to Solacebase on Saturday.
The statement said the consultant, Neuro surgeon and the team leader for the surgery Dr Musbahu Ahmed disclosed that the surgery was conducted following the donation of the equipment for the spine surgery by a philanthropist last year and it’s installation by the hospital management.

‘’He explained that the patient was referred to the neurology surgical clinic of the hospital with an abnormalities of the spine about a year ago and due to non-availability of that equipment the patient was again referred to another health facility, ‘’said the statement.
‘’Upon there, the patient discovered that she cannot afford the funds for the payment of the surgery fees therefore came back to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for another option , fortunately for her here is where we are today.’’
‘’Dr Musbahu who was enthusiastic expressed gratitude to Almighty God for the successful conduct and completion of the first spine surgery in AKTH, which was carried out on a fifty three (53) old woman from Adamawa state .’’
‘’He assured that between Sunday and Monday the patient will start walking normal not bending as she was presented to the clinic.’’
