JUST IN: Kaduna announces new resumption dates for schools
Kaduna State Government on Thursday released a new resumption schedule for its schools after months of disruption in the school calendar due to violent attacks by bandits in the state.
The state’s commissioner for education, Shehu Makarfi, announced this while taking part in a virtual workshop organised by the Education Writers’ Association of Nigeria.
Solacebase reports that the workshop, which was organised as part of the activities to mark the second anniversary of the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, was themed; “Consequences of Violent Attacks on Education in Nigeria.”

The Commissioner said students of the state are expected to resume on Sunday, September 12, 2021.
He, however, said rather than a resume for the third term that has been aborted in the state, the schools will resume the first term for the 2021/2022 academic calendar.
Shehu Makarfi added that the state has worked out strategies towards ensuring the completion of the third term through online platforms.
The Commissioner said the First Term will run from Sept. 12 to Dec. 17; Second Term, Jan. 9, 2022, to April 8, 2022; and Third Term, Aug. 6, 2022, to Sept. 3, 2022.
“All public and private basic and post-basic schools in the state are to comply with the provision of the calendar,” she said.
It could be recalled that the schools were earlier scheduled to reopen on Aug. 9, for the Third Term of 2020/2021 session.
However, the state government on Aug. 6, postponed the resumption till further notice due to security challenges.
