JUST IN: Widow of former President Shehu Shagari, Hadiza dies at 80
The widow of the late President Shehu Shagari, Hajia Hadiza Shagari, has died at the age of 80.
This was contained in a statement issued by the son of the former president, Bala Shagari, on Thursday.
The statement said she died of COVID-19 at the Gwagwalada isolation centre.
It said “We regret to announce the demise of our beloved mother, Hajiya Hadiza Shehu Shagari, the wife of H.E late President Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari, GCFR (Turakin Sokoto).

“We lost her in the early hours of today, 12th August 2021, at about 3:00 am, after battling Covid-19 at the Gwagwalada Isolation Center in Abuja.
According to the statement, “Hajiya Hadiza Shehu Shagari. was 80 years old. Her Jana’iza (Funeral Prayer) will take place today, at 4:00 pm, immediately after Asr prayer, at the National Mosque, Abuja.’’
Meanwhile her husband died on the 28th of December 2018. Bello Shagari, his grandson, confirmed that he died at the National Hospital, Abuja, on Friday evening.
“I regret announcing the death of my grandfather, H.E Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who died right now after brief illness at the National hospital, Abuja,” he tweeted.

The deceased was president in the second republic, from 1979 to 1983, before he was overthrown in a coup by Muhammadu Buhari.
