Kano APC Crisis: Ganduje faction reports Shekarau group to IGP

The All Progressive Congress (APC) faction loyal  to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has written a counter-petition to the Inspector General of Police, requesting actions against the  Senator Ibrahim Shekarau-led group.

It could be recalled that Senator  Shekarau-led faction tagged the  G-7 had last week written a petition to the IGP over an attack on Senator Barau Jibrin’s campaign office in Kano, accusing Gov. Ganduje’s faction of been the brain behind the act and threat to lives of its members.

The petition dated December, 6th, 2021 and jointly signed by Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya (Kano North), Alhassan Ado Doguwa (Majority Leader of House of Reps) and others, alleged the Senator Ibrahim Shekarau faction  of criminal activities which they said led to a series of crisis in the state.

Solacebase reports that the petition was titled “Criminal complaints against action of Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, Barau I. Jibrin, Nasiru Auduwa, Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, Shaaban Ibrahim Sharada, Haruna Isa Dederi and Ahmadu Haruna Zago To Wit: causing violence, sponsoring public unrest uprising, instigation of thuggery, breach of peace, civil unrest and mayhem in Kano state.’’

In the petition, they accused  the Senator Shekarau led faction of  conspiring and procuring armed thugs and attempted to take over the party secretariat in Kano, urging the IGP, as a matter of urgency to commence investigation and arrest the culprits.

According to the petition,“We are members, leaders and executives of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Kano State chapter and as responsible party stakeholders, we lodge the following criminal complaint against the above mentioned persons to enable your office same with a view at a possible prosecution of the culprits.’’

Similarly the petition said that the group relied on a judgment of an FCT High Court to foment trouble in the state, adding, however, that the said judgement that favored the group was about ward congress not state and that an appeal has been filed by the state government but the G-7 could not wait until final judgment, thereby engaging in activities that caused violence in the state.

They urged the IGP to step into the matter and commence investigation.

Solacebase reports that  other signatories to the petition are House of Rep members from Kano: Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, Abubakar Kabir Bichi, Lawan Abdullahi Kenken and Yusuf Ahmad Badau, as well as Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari, Zubairu Hamza Massu, Labaran Abdul Madari, Abdullahi Iliyasu Yaryasa and Ayuba Labaran Durum, the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Majority Leader, Deputy Majority Leader, and Chief Whip of the state House of Assembly respectively.

Others are: Faizu Alfindiki, Hudu Zainawa, Khalid Ishaq Diso, Saleh Ado and Ahmad Tijanni Musa, chairmen of Kano Municipal, Gezawa, Gwale, Minjibir and Tudun Wada local government areas, respectively.
