PRESS RELEASE

Kano State Ministry of Education has described as baseless and misleading, a media report titled  “Government Technical College operating in a borrowed apartment” aired by a Radio station in the state.

Reacting to the online Radio report aired in a Hausa popular programme “Inda Ranka” of freedom Radio Kano, the Commissioner of Education, Malam Muhammad Sanusi Sa’id Kiru said that the report is a calculated attempt by the Radio Station to ridicule the Ministry and indeed the Kano State government despite its commitment in developing the education sector.

The Commissioner explained that the only school operating under such arrangement was the one put in place during the regime of the former governor of Kano State, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in 2012 when there was a demand for an urgent need to establish additional Technical Colleges in 23 local government councils to train our teaming students on vocational skills, such urgency was what prompted the then government of the state to signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the management of Sani Abacha Youth Centre to use some blocks of classrooms in the Centre for the speedy take-off of the Technical College in Kumbotso local government.

According to records available as inherited in the Ministry,  a permanent site for the College was secured at Yan’danko and the building is at a completion stage, stressing that as soon as it is completed, the students will be shifted to the permanent site.

He further lamented that such a misleading report will not add value to society rather it will create confusion and disharmony.

While urging members of the public to disregard the report which was prepared by one of Freedom Radio reporters on  28th April 2021, he appealed to media organizations to always relate as partners in progress not to be operating as agents of destroying public confidence on government and it’s policies.
