Kano state Police Command on Wednesday displayed about 60 riffles recovered and voluntarily submitted by those who possess them illegally.
The state Police Commissioner Rabiu Yusuf while briefing the media said the recovery was in line with the proclamation on the mop up of all illegal firearms nationwide and directive of the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris to all Police Commands and Formations to comply within 21 days.
The Police Commissioner said immediately the directive was given a Committee was set up which to that effects recovered the following from criminals such as armed robbers, Kidnappers, Cattle rustlers, as well as those voluntarily surrendered by the public during the grace period. He noted that these amounted to 37 riffles and 23 Pistols all together.
He noted that the window afford those with the guns illegally to quickly come forward with such as those caught after this will be prosecuted according to the law.
The Police Commissioner urged the members of the public to report any person found in possession, bearing or in custody of any arm to the nearest Police Station, Area Command offices or the State Headquarters Bompai Kano.
