Kano to conduct drug test on LG workers

The Kano State Government has said it would soon conduct a drug test on employees of local government councils across the state.

The State Commissioner for Local Government, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo on Tuesday stated this at a two-day workshop organized by the state government in collaboration with National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Kano Command on creating awareness on drug and substance abuse at local government level.

Solacebase reports that Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo said the workshop became necessary to check the menace of drug abuse in the state.

The commissioner urged all contestants in the councillorship and chairmanship election scheduled for January 2020 to undergo drug test with NDLEA to ensure that public office holders are not addicts.

On his part, NDLEA Commander in Kano, Dr Ibrahim Abdul said the negative impact of drug abuse is enormous.

‘’The sensitization was very timely considering the fact that we are already achieving much success in the fight against substances abuse,’’ Dr. Abdul said.

Participants at the workshop were drawn from senior officers from the forty-four local government areas of the state.
