KEDCO Intensifies Move Towards Metering Customers In Kano, Katsina, Jigawa State

Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) and the five-meter vendors handling the deployment and installation have intensified moves to meter its numerous customers as quickly as possible.

The electricity company said this is based on the outcome of its stakeholders held recently.

This was contained in a statement issued by Head, Corporate Communication, KEDCO Ibrahim Sani Shawai, on Tuesday and sent to Solacebase.

It said the management plans to meter 75, 000 households within the next three months and in that regard, has mandated the five vendors to fast-track all activities that will result to the speedy provision of meters to end the complaints by customers as well as better serve consumers in a more satisfactory manner in line with the vision of KEDCO.

‘’The management has commenced consultation with three additional meter vendors with the hope that when the consultation materializes, it will boost the number of meters in Kano franchise areas as more customers will be metered within the shortest possible time,’’ said the statement.

“We are not resting on our mission to ensure that we terminate estimated billing because it remains the major way to end customers’ complaints while improving satisfaction. We are really concerned about the need to ensure speedy circulation of these meters across the board. This is why we are in negotiation with three additional vendors to make it eight.’’

“We are forthwith calling on all concerned customers who are yet to get meters to come to get their meters for effective service delivery. This time is now. The meters are affordable and easy to get.’’

While commenting on the issue, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of KEDCO, Alhaji Jamil Isyaku Gwamna said there had to be a way of ending complaints on the estimated billing system, adding that the company has been doing a lot to ensure that customers are metered.

“We don’t derive any pleasure whatsoever that we still have complaints from customers, no matter the reduction in the statistics, we are worried and have taken the 75, 000 in three months. We have to do what we have to do. This is KEDCO where every customer is king and we intend to keep it that way.’’

“Soon more vendors will be brought on board and we will push until every household get a meter; because as far as KEDCO is concerned, it is meter time.’’

The Kano DisCo boss appealed to customers to get their meter in time, noting that there are enough meters on ground for those who meet the requirements for metering.

Gwamna also tasked customers to cultivate the habit of going to any KEDCO offices to get first hand information about the metering, adding that “sometimes what you hear outside may not be the real story. Rely on us for your information and not anywhere else.’’
