KUST Alumni Association Condemns Purchase Of Over N200m Vehicles For The University Principal Officers
The Alumni Association of Kano University of Science and Technology KUST Wudil has condemned the purchase of exotic Vehicles for principal officers of the university.
The body described the act as misplacement of priority as this has no value to the students’ education.
Solacebase recalled that ASUU KUST Branch in a statement issued on January, 30 jointly signed by ASUU-KUST branch Chairman, Comrade Muhammad Sani Gaya and Secretary Comrade Murtala Muhammad had threatened to embark on strike while accusing the university of extravagant spending on exotic vehicles to the tune of over N200m and underfunding of institution by the state government.
The University Alumni Association Secretary-General, Umar Alhassan Ahmad in a statement on Wednesday said the move by the varsity management to increase the registration and other fees would deprive many less privileged students opportunity to acquire education and portend danger to the state government free and compulsory education program.

‘’’We are aware that currently, KUST Management charges around N23,000 while Sule Lamido University in Jigawa State is charging indigenes N10, 750 and at the same time ATBU Bauchi charges N22,000, hence there is no justification for the varsity to increase the fees,’’ said the statement.
The association in the statement expressed unhappiness over how some of its members working in the citadel of learning are treated unfairly without promotion despite been qualified
On the recent disputes with the university authorities, the ASUU branch and the state government accused of underfunding, it appealed to all parties to return to the negotiating table for further dialogue to address the issues.
‘’Kano State Government and the State House of Assembly should establish a policy for the deduction of 2% from the 44 LGAs grants monthly to be allocated to state universities that include KUST-Wudil and YUMSU for their sustainability.’’
