The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) on Wednesday in Abuja launched an application tagged ‘Crime Records Information Management System (CRIMS)’ with a view to revolutionise crime management in the country.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the application was launched by the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
Aregbesola said that the NFIU and other partner crime-fighting agencies should also add the capture and secure placement of the DNA of all criminals across the country.
Malam Modibbo Tukur, Chief Executive Officer of NFIU, said CRIMS would give instant data access to all Law Enforcement Agencies, Judicial officers as well as all Defence, National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and Directorate of State Security (DSS) formations.

According to him, the tool will be deployed to all Police stations across the country as well as all Customs and Immigration outposts.
The NFIU boss also added that the armed forces would also be given access to the tool to enable them to use it in their operations.
Tukur further said that all crime suspects, whose data are captured at any point, would be pooled into a central database for use by relevant institutions afterwards.
Head of ICT at the NFIU, Mohammed Jiya, who explained the process of the application, said that it would be deployed for use by all relevant crime-fighting agencies in the country.
According to him, the application is developed for both Android and IoS devices.
He also said that the application would be used to access local database such as identities, properties, financial transactions and telephone details and call logs of suspects. (NAN)
