The governing council of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has suspended the Executive Secretary of the scheme Usman Yusuf indefinitely
The NHIS governing council Chairman, Ifenne Enyanatu announced the resolution of the council to journalists after a two-day closed door meeting in Abuja.
Ifenne Enyanatu said the council decided to suspend Dr. Usman Yusuf due to inundated petitions and infractions against the Executive Secretary.
Mrs Enyanatu also announced that Sadiq Abubakar will now act as acting Executive Secretary in the meantime.
She said the council also resolved to set up an administrative panel to examine allegations leveled against Usman Yusuf with a deadline of three months to complete its assignment and report back.
Dr. Usman Yusuf was suspended in July 2017 by the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewale, but was reinstated by President Muhammadu Buhari in February, 2018.
