Nigerian idol records top performances amid eviction

The Nigerian Idol Season 9 grand finale is coming closer, with just two weeks left until the next Idol is crowned.

The last episode featured the eviction of one of the top 5 contestants, with the remaining contestants performing both a Nigerian favourite and an R&B song.

MI Abaga, Nigerian rapper, songwriter, and record producer joined the panel as a guest judge to add an extra layer of expertise.

The show began on a sad note as host IK Osakioduwa announced that Maio had failed to make the top 4, having received the fewest votes out of the 40 million cast the previous week.

The evening’s performances started with Chima, who serenaded the audience with Wizkid’s global music “Essence”, featuring Tems.

He later returned to the stage for his second performance, a beautiful rendition of Chaka Khan’s “Through the Fire.”

The judges applauded his growth and outstanding performance streak.

Next, Lammy took the audience back to early 2000 with his performance of the timeless classic love song “Olufunmi” by Styl Plus, followed by John Legend’s “Ordinary People” as his second act.

Mira Clear also delivered a great performance of Fave’s “Baby Riddim”, followed by an exhilarating rendition of Beyoncé’s “Broken-Hearted Girl”.

At the end of the show, the host, Ik Osakioduwa, announced that two contestants will leave the show, as the last two will compete to be crowned the winner of Nigerian Idol Season 9.
