NIPR inducts 159 members

The law establishing the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) criminalizes the practice of the profession without certification from the institute.

NIPR President, Malam Mukhtar Sirajo stated this position on Thursday at a virtual induction program of new members of the institute.

Solacebase reports that the institute inducted 159 members including Abdullateef Abubakar Jos, an online newspaper Publisher, based in Kano.

Sirajo said the body attained the status of a Chartered Institute in June 1990 through Decree No. 16 (now an Act of the National Assembly) from which it derives the power and responsibility to register members, set parameters of knowledge to acquire to qualify to practise, regulate the practice and development of the PR Profession as well monitor professional conducts through an established Code of Ethics, amongst others.

‘’The institute while urging the government at all levels to ensure compliance to the law guiding the practice of Public Relations, emphasized that the body has opened several windows of opportunity for prospective members,’’ Malam Mukhtar Sirajo.

”You are becoming a member of NIPR at a time the country is in dire need of public relations experts. This is the time communication is required to strengthen the bond that kept us as a people for a long while, which is presently threaten.”

He said PR is about communication and practitioners are ambassadors of relationship building.

On his part, Chairman of the Membership Committee and Council Member, Dr Sule Ya’u Sule urged the new members to always exhibit a high sense of responsibility and adhere to ethics.

According to him, there are categories of membership that include, Graduate level, Associate, Full membership and Fellow.

He also outlines the processes of advancing from one level of membership to another.

Dr Sule Ya’u Sule emphasised the importance of members participation in various chapters activities.
