Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has appealed to Kano State Government to settle several months of pension arrears and gratuities owed pensioners in the state.
The Kano State Council of the union made the call in a communique jointly signed by the Chairman, Abbas Ibrahim and Secretary, Abba Murtala after a congress meeting held on Saturday.
Solacebase reports that Kano State Pension Trust Fund confirmed last June that the state government owes retired workers over N20 billion as gratuities.
The Chairman of the Pension Fund Trustees Alhaji Sani Gabasawa announced this on June 25 while speaking with Journalists.
The communique decried the living conditions of pensioners in the state which is attributable to their outstanding from the government.
‘’The august body observes that some communities in the state have been devastated by flooding as a result of the heavy downpour, calling on the state government to urgently come to the aid of affected communities, ‘’said the communique.
‘’While appreciating the government’s effort in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic, the union calls on parents to ensure that all WAEC students strictly adhere to COVID-19 protocols.’’
The congress, in the communique , appreciates Governor Abdullahi Ganduje for appointing three of its members, namely, Abdul Umar Farouk, Abubakar Balarabe Kofar Na’isa and Ibrahim Abdullahi Dan Hisba as Senior Special Assistants.
‘’The congress commends the state government for supporting the security agencies in the maintenance of law and order as it also calls on the security formations to be on the alert particularly along Doguwa/Falgore axis.’’
