Obey Court Order, CSOs Tell Kano Anti Graft Chairman

The coalition of Kano Civil Society organizations against corruption on Tuesday appealed to the state anti-corruption commission chairman Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado to appear before the Gezawa High court on 18th July as ordered.

The coalition that expressed support to the anti-corruption efforts of the Kano state anti-corruption commission calls for truce to the impasse between the agency and the high court considering its negative implication on the society.

Addressing a news conference in Kano today, comrade Isiyaku Ahmad who spoke on behalf of the group urged the state executive council, the legislature and the judiciary to wade into the issue with utmost care so as not to undermine the judiciary and the integrity of the anti-corruption agency of the state.

“We are 100% in support of the independence of the Judiciary , the legislature and the executive , therefore we strongly condemned the statement credited to the Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman Muhuyi Magaji Rimigado that he will order the arrest of the Gezawa High Court Judge, “ said Isiyaku Ahmed. Comrade Isyaku Ahmad explained that the coalition recognized the right of the court to summon the anti-corruption chairman as a witness or defendant as the case may be, it called on both parties to conduct themselves within  the dictate of the law.

The group that consisted of about 20 CSOs added that if immediate mediation is not adopted it may affect the anti-corruption war which the group is fighting in the state.

The `CSOs include Voice Against Corruption in Nigeria, Centre For Awareness on Justice and Accountability, Kano Youth Parliament, Voice and Accountability Platform, Centre For Research and Documentation, Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, Aminu Kano International Foundation, Citizen Voice Against Corruption, Organization for Community Civic Engagement and Youth Society For The Prevention Of Infectious Disease and Social Vices.

Solacebase recalled that a suit filed by Hajia Farida Tahir Against Muhuyi Magaji Rimigado nd 3 others before Justice Muhammad Yahaya of the Gezawa High Court led to the impasse.

Though the Petitioner Hajia Farida Tahir and Grassroot Microfinance have being under investigation by the anti-graft agency over what it called illegal deposit of about N100m by the former Accountant General of Kano State in the bank.
