Political thugs on Thursday assaulted Zamfara state Council Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) comrade Ibrahim Musa Mai Zare.
SOLACEBASE gathered that the hostility started when the chairman tried to stop the thugs from erecting some structures in front of some shops belonging to NUJ rented to All Progressive Congress, APC to use as campaign office.
Reacting on the matter, NUJ Secretary Malam Ibrahim Gada said they invited police to intervene but the thugs openly told police that nobody can force them to leave the shops and that they are ready to deal with or even kill any journalists that try to send them away from the shops.

According to him, the incident is disheartening and shows that the integrity and lives of Journalists in Zamfara state are at risk, and that they can’t work under this threat.
Malam Ibrahim Gada therefore called on all stakeholders including security agencies, Human right activists and other non governmental organizations to come to their aid.
The Zamfara Police Command is yet to comment on the issue.
