The Senate has resolved to write the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen over the ruling of a Federal High Court restraining it from acting further on the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill, 2018 wherein it changed the sequence of elections
The resolution followed a point of order by Senator Godswill Akpabio and supported by the Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan.
The Senate resolved to write the CJN to notify him of the development in the spirit of the separation of powers between arms of government as enshrined in the Constitution.
The Upper chamber also resolved to ask the CJN to caution judicial officers in the country from granting orders/ injunctions that negate the principle of separation of powers
