The Sickle cell community has made a giant leap of the launching of Sickle Cell Community Trust Fund to support People living with Sickle Cell Disorder.
The Initiative was conducted on Monday in Kano with the support from Community Health and Research Initiative (CHR) and the Centre for Sustainable Development and Communication Initiative (CSDCI)
In a remark, the co-founder of the program Shema’u Adam Imam said the bold step taken is to provide a sustainable financial platform for cushioning the challenges of sickle cell patients towards purchasing drugs, screening payments and sundry issues connected with the ailment.
“Some members within the Sickle Cell Community in Kano State are battling with various challenges and unable to settle hospitals bills and their daily routine drugs” she added.

Shema’u Adam further stressed that some patients have an acute complication that requires immediate medical attention, but procrastinates due to lack of financial capability to meet up their demand.
Hence, she pointed out that with such Initiative most Sickle Cell patients will regain optimism and continue to keep hope alive.
In his address, the Executive director of Community Health & Research Initiative (CHR) Salisu Musa Muhammad noted that 95 per cent of Sickle Cell patients survive in U.S.
He noted that this trend is also achievable in Nigeria, by reducing the chances of prevailing challenges through ensuring routine checking, hand washing to avert infections and drugs accessibility without stress.
Earlier in a remark, former Chief Medical Director , Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Dr.Abdulhamid Isa Dutse said in view of the severe challenges daily suffered by sickle patients, it is imperative for lawmakers both in federal and state level, to give priority towards funding health-based program that will help sickle cell and other sundry patients of various money-consuming ailments in their various communities.
While declaring open the Trust Fund Account Dr Aisha Gwarzo of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, donated of 200,000 Naira and pledged 2,000 Naira as a monthly donation to the Sickle Cell Trust Fund.
While Hajia Maryam Sale, who emotionally and in tears narrated how she lost her daughter due to the sickle cell anaemia in 2017, gave a donation sum of 300,000 Naira.
The Launching of the Trust Fund was graced by the members of the academia, CSO, and health-related organisations.
