3

Following the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic on large gathering as well as the advice by the government to citizens on the need for social distancing to contain the spread of the virus, the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) says it has re-strategized alternative approaches to engage communities across Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states.

KEDCO Management stated that the proposed engagement of over 100 communities across Kano franchise areas in 2020 is key to the company, as it provides an opportunity for the company to enlighten customers on various safety issues, give tips on how to resolve conflicts while fostering peace in these communities as well as other current issues that relate to the development of power sector.

Head, Corporate Communications, KEDCO, Ibrahim Sani Shawai, stated this in a statement issued on Tuesday and sent to Solacebase.

‘’Since we cannot go to these communities to engage them on these issues, we have fashioned out ways to ensure that we maintain our tradition of giving communities within our franchise area, the platforms to interact with us on issues that concern their safety especially from electrical installations, how to resolve conflict to ensure that host communities have the needed peace to protect our installations and equipment,’’ said the statement.

”In that regard, we have diversified our approach as we now plan to engage them online through social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, we will also make a direct call to key stakeholders separately on different issues. There shall be weekly radio programmes too where we will receive live feedback as well as sending bulk SMS to them. These stakeholders will cut across various fields of endeavour to ensure that we reach a wide range of stakeholders.’’

The statement said on the issue, the Managing Director, Dr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna said: “ Community engagement is the heart of change and we have leveraged this engagement in the past to make a better decision in the interests of our customers across our franchise areas.

“As a listening company, we need to continue to listen to our customers and give them the right to determine how they want to be served as well as give them some useful tips on how to keep safe and also tell them reasons why they need to partner with us to protect our installation.’’
