SolaceBase Data: Here is what Kano got from FAAC in 3 months

By Aminu Abubakar

A data review by SolaceBase has shown that in the three months period between December 2023 and February 2024, Kano State received N41 billion as federation accounts committee allocation.

The review also shows that Kano is heavily reliant on FAAC allocation, making way less internally generated revenue.

Analysis shows that the highest amount in the period under review was received in January when the sum of N14.15 billion was received.

In February 2024, N13.6 billion was received while the receipt for December 2023, was N13.3 billion.

The budget performance report of the state shows that it received the sum of N62 billion as FAAC allocation in the first three months of 2024, although this report relies heavily on the data provided by the National Bureau of Statistics.

What is the worth of Kano’s Three Months FAAC allocation?

Assuming 50% (N20 billion) of the allocation was dedicated to capital needs, this is what it can do.

50% of the allocation is over three times of what the state’s Ministry of Works spent in three months as capital expenditure.

This means that 50% of the allocation received in three months can cover over three times the first three months’ expenditure of the state on its works ministry.

The money is also about eighty times what the state’s Ministry of Education spent (N250.7 million) on capital expenditure in the first three months of 2024.

50% of the allocation received by Kano state is two hundred times the money set aside (N100 million)  for small-town water supply boreholes in the state for 2024.

The money is also six times the budget for the provision of health centres/hospitals for the state in 2024. The sum of N3.3 billion was budgeted to be spent on the construction of hospitals/health centres in the 2024 fiscal year.

50% of the FAAC allocation is also twice the total budget for the construction of roads/culverts (N10.6 billion) in the state for 2024.

What Kano State Made Internally Vs the Federal Allocation

Using the data provided by the budget performance report of the state shows that it received the sum of N62 billion as FAAC allocation in the first three months of 2024, it however made only N9 billion internally

This means that the state received four times of its IGR as FAAC allocation.

Using data from the state budget performance report, it would mean that the state received six times its IGR as FAAC in the first three months of 2024.

Kano state has continued to face the challenge of revenue generation, a situation that has meant reliance on FAAC revenue for sustenance and to meet its fiscal responsibilities.
