Staff Shut Down SON Over Poor Welfare Condition

Workers of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria on Tuesday paralyzed at activities at the Abuja office of the organization as they commenced industrial action over poor welfare condition.

The workers under the auspices of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees are demanding the immediate approval and implementation of better conditions of service at SON.

The workers also alleged that the Director-General of SON, Osita Aboloma had refused to obey the directive of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment on voluntarism.

Speaking to journalists during the protest the Chairman, Federal Capital Territory, AUPCTRE, Aliyu Maradun said the management of SON should stop all acts of intimidation and victimization of members of staff.

Aliyu Maradun said they were also calling for a reversal of all punitive transfers effected since “management’s onslaught on the union after the headquarters branch election.”

Reacting to the protest, SON Spokesperson, Mr Dipo Fashina said that the issues being raised by the workers are being addressed by the management.
