Sudan old students association of Nigeria demands justice for Ad-Damazin crisis victims

Sudan old student association of Nigeria (SOSAN) has expressed concerned over the recent crisis in Ad-Damazin Region, the capital city of Blue Nile, Sudan, which resulted in killing, destruction and social dislocation against a minority group that has lived peacefully for centuries with its host community.

The association lamented this situation at a news conference in Kano, on Sunday.

It said the conflict which is unprecedented, came as a surprise to many within and out side Africa.

Solacebase recalls that tribal clashes between two ethnic groups led to the killing of dozens of people in Sudan’s Blue Nile State, Ad-Damazin.

The clashes sparked in the three localities of Gaissan, Roseiris and Wad Al-Mahi, following the murder of one person during an argument between two people from two tribal groups.

Also, the incident was said to have taken place as tensions increased recently in the region following calls to recognize a chiefdom for an ethnic group that originate from Nigeria but settled in the region for a long time.

Chairman of the association, Malam Aliyu Abdulkadir urged the Sudanese Authorities to ensure Justice for the victims against their oppressors with the same speed the crisis was brought under control.

Abdulkadir who is an assistant Imam of Alfruqan Mosque also called on the Sudanese government to help the displaced persons to find succour and return to their homes and normal life

He appealed to Nigerian government and the United Nations to assist Sudanese authorities in resettling and rehabilitating the innocent victims of the conflict and bring the perpetrators of the crime to book.
