Suspected arsonists set ablaze worship centre in Kano

A building housing meeting hall and stores of Husainiya Imam Hasan Al mujtaba, a religious center of Islamic movement of Nigeria, situated at Dorayi Babba, Gwale local government area of Kano state has been burnt.

This was contained in a statement signed by a member of the movement, Suleiman Gambo, on Saturday and made available to journalists.

The statement said suspected miscreants scaled through the perimeter fence of the building and burnt the meeting hall and stores with property worth millions of naira destroyed.

“The properties destroyed are estimated to cost not less than 3 million Naira, we have reported the incident to the DPO Dorayi Babba station and he came in person together with his officers to assess the situation, we have written formal complaints of threats to our lives and properties to the commissioner of police, ‘’the statement said.

The statement reads, “On 2/8/2022 we were also attacked during our program at the Husainiya by some youths, they used swords and other weapons, injured  five of our members including one with fracture on the leg, they also burnt  down our Toyota Corolla LE car, the court case is still ongoing.”

The statement alleged that the hate speech against Shiite ideology by Imams of Jumuat mosques during their sermons have been the incitement against them.

“Also in June this year, there was a mischievous anonymous paper pasted at Izala mosque where those who called themselves ‘yan Husainiya  made threat to the life of Imam of Izala mosque, we dissociated ourselves with that mischief and the former CP ordered the DPO to investigate those behind the paper.”

The statement appealed to concerned authorities to fish out those behind these heinous acts which is bent on attempts to deny Shia members their rights of worship.
