SWAN tasks widows on self-reliance , avoid begging

The Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria(SWAN) has urged the widows in the country to be more self-reliant and avoid begging so as to uphold their dignity among the people.

The Chairperson of the Association, Kano, Jigawa Branch  Madam Mary Adaku  Egbuna made the appeal at a one-day Sensitization for widows tagged initiative outreach on Saturday on how Widows can become Self-reliant and avoid the use of their children going into the streets to begs.

She said this would address the poverty and injustice faced by millions of widows and their dependents across the country.

‘’We have seen many times where a man dies and family members snatched all the property from the woman and chased the woman and her children out of the house; leaving them to start living in struggle and pain, she added.

The SWAN boss also called on government at all levels to come up with laws and policies to protect windows from barbaric cultures and criminal act, such as rape, Kidnaping, indiscrimination among others.

Solacebase reports that at the end of sensitization about 20  widows received palliatives from SWAN to cushion the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on their lives.

Some of the widows who spoke to Solacebase appreciated the association and promised to judiciously utilize the knowledge acquired.
