Tiga Dam Flood: Lawmaker calls for federal, state governments support for thousands of affected people in Kano

The member representing Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya federal constituencies in the House of Representatives, Alhaji Kabiru Alhassan Rurum has appealed to the federal and Kano State governments to as a matter of urgency come to the aid of thousands of residents displaced by flooding due to the Tiga dam over flow in Kano. threatening farming activities and livelihood.

Solacebase reports that one of the tributes of the Tiga dam on Thursday was said to have overflow the river bank into many farm lands and houses in the area, due to heavy down pour being experience recently.

In a statement issued by his Media adviser, Fatihu Yusif Bichi, Rurum made the appeal during a visit on Saturday to the area in the aftermath of the dam overflow that affected thousands of people in the community as a result of washing away farms, damaged roads and forced the surrounding villages to flee to safety.

The statement said during the visit, the ex-speaker, Kano assembly says according to the firsthand information he got from the victims, they alleged the blockage of the dam tributes by Hadejia/Jama’are River Basin Authority which later over flow and wreak havoc on the community.

‘’As a result of the dam outflow that led to flooding, thousands of residents in the communities have been displaced,’’ Rurum said.

Also, speaking to Solacebase, Alhassan Rurum said he has spoken to the managing director of the Hadejia/Jama’are River Basin Authority, so as to fashion out modalities to prevent recurrence of the situation.

He promised to raise the issue at plenary of the House of Representatives for investigation and mitigation of the damage.
