I wish the sad news that struck on Sunday, December 22nd, 2019 at about 12:30 pm was not true, and I also wish the call I received from my sister Badia telling me my dad had an accident were dreams.
I made so many wishes to clear my curiosity, but apparently from the number of calls I later received from my family made me believe the sad news. Innalillahi wainnailaihi rajiun.
Abba left home at about 10.00 am to Kaduna for an official assignment, as if he knew what was about to happen to him before he left, he complained bitterly to my sister (hajiyayye) of the terrible state of kano/Kaduna roads.
“Bana son bin hanyar nan ta kaduna”( I don’t like plying the Kaduna highway) he said with a resounding tone. But notwithstanding “Allah zai kiyaye” (May God see us through) as he gently walks towards his car accompanied by my brother Umar. He handed the car key to his driver Sa’adu and drove off.
Two hours later, His elder brother called to inform the family of the incident which happened between Kura – Daka Salle at a bridge called “gadar yan kifi”, in Garum Malam local government area, Kano State, about 50km away from the state capital.
Uncle Sani did not disclose details of the news, he only said “a moving truck with container fell on Baba’s car but no problem, he’s safe Insha Allah”.
The family became much confused, while my brothers got the strength to rush to the scene. Innalillahi wainnailaihi rajiun, yes Abba is dead, they met him and his driver laying helplessly under a heavy loaded container.
An eye witness told my brothers that he was saying “laillaha illallah a taimaka mana, laillaha ilallah, laillaha illalah” before he finally gave up. Inalillahi wainnailaihi rajiun, we lost him and the driver.
Abba, the name we call him, had this exceptional character and personality. The love he has for his family is second to none, he can sacrifice his life for the comfort and happiness of his family, indeed a great pillar was down.
I called him my best friend because we were very close, we so much look alike, he always confides in me, we share almost similar interest, whenever he speaks about his family he will call “Zainab”.
I have no matching words to describe the vacuum you’ve left in my heart Abba. You gave me names that only you call me with “madammm” with double M, blackface, and when whenever I crack your ribs with a joke, you laugh and say “crazy woman”. The whole family agreed to our closeness, they named us “Tom and Jerry, because you scold me often.
Abba, you have truly lived a good life, the world testified to it, we never knew you were loved by people until when you left. Allah endowed you with his fear, a highly devoted Muslim, a great achiever, generous, humble, jovial, cheerful giver, kind, and dedicated.
He was undeterred by the challenges of life, indeed a true warrior has gone. He has this love and passion for orphans and widows, his love to clear and expand graveyards, sponsor students to further their studies and much more. Rabbi hamhuma kama rabbi ya’ani saghirah.
May Allah SWT reward you with Janna, you will always be remembered in our prayers, till we meet in Jannah Insha Allah. Rest on Sarkin Yakin Kazaure, Rest on Baraden Hausan Daura.
