UPDATED : Kano to reopen schools on Oct 11

Kano State government has announced the reopening of private and public schools for the third term of 2019/2020 academic session on Oct. 11

The Kano  State Commissioner for Education, Muhammad Sanusi Kiru,   announced this during a news conference in his office on Thursday.

Solacebase reports that Muhammad Kiru noted that the decision to reopen schools was a result of a series of meetings with stakeholders and State Commissioners for Education across the 19 northern states, where resolutions were adopted.

He said that all teachers are to return to their respective schools from 10th Oct to commence preparations for the reopening of schools.

The Commissioner added that pupils of primaries one to two in public schools would attend classes, only on Monday and Tuesday while pupils in primary three to five would attend classes only on Wednesday to Friday with effect from Monday 12th Oct 2020.

He also said Students in JSS 3, JSS and SS 2 are to resume fully to enable them to prepare for the forthcoming transitional and Qualifying examination.

He further noted that JSS1 and SS1 in both public and private schools, boarding and day are to stay at home for additional five weeks until the end of the transitional and Qualifying examination to ensure compliance with Covid-19 protocol such as the provision of standard social distance in classes and hostels.
