VIDEO : Despite evidence, Kano Govt debunks story on governor’s wife anointment in 2023 race

Kano state government has debunked a story attributed to the First Lady, Prof. Hafsat Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in which she was reported to have endorsed Murtala Sule Garo, commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs as successor to her husband come 2023.

In a statement issued on Monday, the state commissioner for information, Malam Muhammad Garba explained that the governor’s wife was quoted out of context in the trending video clip on the social media platforms.

Solacebase had reported that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s wife, Hafsat on Saturday at an event at Ungogo local government in a viral video commended the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Murtala Sule Garo and emphasised that a politician of the commissioner’s quality is what is needed to succeed her husband.

Hafsat Ganduje popularly called Gwoggo, stated that Murtala Garo is the ideal person.

She noted that the commissioner had sleepless nights working for his ministry.

“I remember, while on a short trip. At all the time… He is here listening to me, in every battle, there has to be a Commander,  had spent sleepless nights. I swear to God, he didn’t sleep because he was working hard to discharge his responsibility as a commissioner. I hope, you chairmen are listening to me? You are hearing this from Gwoggo’s mouth.

“What the governor wants is educated, agile, and hardworking young men to steer the affair of our Local Governments. He also wants hardworking youths to succeed him.

The first lady noted that what she had seen in Murtala Garo during the trip had made her satisfied that he is the ideal successor of her husband come 2023.

However, in the statement, Garba said in the video,  the First Lady was only thrilled by Garo’s performance whom she fondly called commander and for his support for the policies and programmes of Governor Ganduje and his administration in the state.

“Just as she commended Murtala Sule Garo for his performance, Her Excellency has also been consistent in applauding any other commissioner or public servant who perform wonderfully well in the discharge of his responsibility,” the statement added.

‘’Malam Garba pointed out that content of the video was twisted by making a fictitious story out of it and given much publicity by people bent on creating confusion and unnecessary tension so as to create divisions in the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state.

‘’He called on party members and supporters to exercise patience and restraint until the appropriate time comes for the democratic process to take effect on how a gubernatorial candidate emerges.’’

‘’’ The commissioner stated that the Ganduje administration is focused on completion and implementation of key policies and programmes as well as critical infrastructure projects between now and 2023.’’

‘’He, therefore, called on party members to disregard rumours being peddled and direct their energy towards supporting the administration to continue to serve them better.’’
