Hundreds of lesser hajj passengers (Umrah) on Friday are stranded at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja as they were compelled to pay N140,000 each for a hotel at NICON suit where they would be quarantined for 7 days.
Solacebase gathered that they were also asked to pay N39, 500 each for the COVID-19 test despite showing a health certificate and COVID-19 vaccination card.
‘’They said the health certificate is invalid as it was only one jab or single dose that they were administered,’’ said one of the passengers.
One of the passengers, Maryam Umar said their passports were collected from them and handed over to the police with the instruction that they should proceed to the hotel.
However, when the passengers insisted that they will not proceed to the hotel with the police, officials of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC ) and the police threatened to destroy their passports.
Solacebase efforts to speak with NCDC was not successful as the centre complaint phone line was not attended to.
