The West African College of Surgeons has approved the full accreditation of the Obstetrics and Gynecology department of Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital for a period of 5 years.
Solacebase reports that the hospital with the approval has been granted the license for full residency training for Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Recall that the department, in 2018, was given partial accreditation by the college for 2 years, to train resident doctors to part one level. However, since then, more trainers and trainees were recruited by the Hospitals Management board to carry out the program.
The Teaching Hospital Chief Medical Director, Dr Mustapha Hikima on Tuesday said this is one of the positive results of the commitment of the State Ministry of health led by the Commissioner, Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, and Hospitals Management Board, in improving health care delivery to the state.

Dr Hikima said with the multi-million naira investment of the state government in the facility, through the intervention of the Kano State Health Trust Fund, a barrage of modern equipment were secured to the department, enabling improved quality of patient care and better training ground for the resident doctors. ‘’These developments recorded in the hospital made it possible for the college to grant a full accreditation,’’ said the CMD.
‘’This is a great feat in health care delivery in the state, as it is a means of securing a steady supply of expertise manpower in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology, critical in reducing maternal mortality in the state and the country at large.’’
