‘We experienced UAV mishap in Kaduna’ — NAF clarifies

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has clarified that reports of a helicopter crash in Kaduna, widely circulated on social media and some traditional media outlets earlier today, are incorrect. 

Instead, the incident involved a NAF Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), not a helicopter.

According to Abdullahi Labaran, spokesperson of Kano command, the UAV experienced a mishap shortly after take-off for a mission near Rumji Village, approximately 15 kilometers from the base. 

“Fortunately, there were no casualties since the vehicle was unmanned, and no damage was reported on the ground. A preliminary investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.”

The investigation aims to uncover the reasons behind the UAV’s malfunction to prevent future occurrences.

He added that NAF remains committed to maintaining operational readiness and safety standards, and has assured Nigerians that this minor setback will not impact ongoing operations.
