‘’We lack the power to suspend Kano anti- corruption Chairman’’-Assembly

Kano House of Assembly on Wednesday said it lacks the power to suspend the Chairman of the State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Chairman, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado.

Solacebase reports that on Monday the House suspended the Chairman of the State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Chairman, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado over a petition from the state Accountant General on his rejection of an accountant posted to the Commission.

The house suspended the Commission Chairman for a month and set up a committee to investigate and report back in two weeks.

Like in a twist of faith, the House Deputy Speaker, Zabairu Hamza Massu said in a meeting with reporters where he passed the blame on poor reportage, saying that the assembly with the power conferred on it can only recommend to the governor to suspend or remove the commission chairman.

‘’ We don’t have the power to suspend the commission chairman. Though we can institute an investigation and recommend for suspension or removal to the governor, ‘’said the Deputy Speaker.

‘’ It was the fault of your reportage as what we said was not what was reported.’’

”So we don’t want you to record or report this meeting we just had now, ”the deputy speaker told journalists.

Incidentally, the reporters have the recording of the Monday proceeding where the house pronounced the suspension, the deputy speaker despite that is laying the blame on journalists.

However, a source at the House told Solacebase that the members were too excited over the hatched job on the anti-corruption Chairman to the extent that they went beyond their limit.
