World Cancer Day : Kano Reiterates Commitment For Befitting World Class Cancer Centre

Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Tuesday reiterated commitment towards hastening the construction of state of the art Cancer Centre in the state, as the World celebrates Cancer Day, themed “I Can, We Can”.

The governor calls for the dire need to tame Cancer in both treatment and management.

The foundation of the Multi-Billion Naira Centre was recently laid by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, situated adjacent to Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital, Giginyu, in Kano.

This was contained in a message to celebrate the world cancer day issued by the Governor Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar and obtained by Solacebase.

Governor Ganduje in the statement assured that “It is because we believe we can and all other stakeholders can put hands together with us that, we decided to put in place this befitting Cancer Centre in the state. This will take care of many patients from many states of the federation. And when completed, it will be the best Cancer Centre in the country.”

It noted that the Centre was as a result of his visit sometime last year, to Melbourne, Australia, where he saw a World Cancer Centre.

“I said our state needed something like that. We then worked it out assiduously with some selected global experts in Cancer treatment. An action that takes us to where we are now. My visit to Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne fruited what we are seeing now in Kano,’’ said the statement.

‘’A reports show that only 8 Teaching Hospitals in the country have Radiotherapy Machines for Cancer treatment, the Kano Cancer Centre can boast of having this and other latest machines for that purpose.’’

The Centre is slated to be completed and commissioned this year, 2020.
