Accident: Dangote Group offsets burial expenses for 12 deceased , works out compensation for victims
Dangote Group of Companies has paid N500,000 to each family of the eight students killed last month when one of its trucks lost control at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, so as to offset burial and incidental expenses.
Solacebase reports that the accident occurred on January, 23 when the articulated vehicle lost control and rammed into the gate of Adekunle Ajasin University, (AAU), Akungba, killing 8 students and 4 others.
The Students’ Union Government of the university made the disclosure in a statement issued on Saturday.
Its president Mr Oluwasegun Obagunwa, said in the statement that the payment was made “following several agitations led by the Students’ Union Government’’.
It said Dangote Insurers are currently meeting with all stakeholders for settlement of all medical expenses incurred as a result of the accident, payment of disability benefits, Compensation for damaged properties and payment of death benefits to families of the deceased.

“The Students’ Union Government wishes to announce to the students and the entire populace that the Dangote group of companies has reached out to all the families of the victims to pay them condolence visits.
“The N500,000 has already been paid to each of the families.
“There are other on-going plans by the Dangote Group of Companies to further compensate the victims and their families in due course,’’ he said.
Obagunwa added that the students union would ensure that all further compensations were fulfilled to the families as soon as possible.
“We all know that there is no amount of money, items or valuables that can ever be compared to the loss.
He prayed that the institution would never witness such a tragic event anymore. (NAN)
