Anxiety As Supreme Court Decides Ganduje, Tambuwal’s Fate Today
The Supreme Court is expected to deliver judgment today Monday in the appeals challenging the election of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State as well as Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State.
Solacebase recalled that the apex court had last Tuesday reserved judgments in the Kano and Sokoto governorship election appeals
The court presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, after listening to arguments from the lawyers of parties in suit adjourned to Monday, January 20 for the legal battle.
In the Kano suit, the appellants, Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Peoples Democratic Party are challenging the electoral victory of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in the March 2019 governorship election which the tribunal and the court of appeal upheld.
Similarly in the Sokoto governorship appeal at the apex court, the All Progressive Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate in the 2019 general elections, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto dissatisfied with the tribunal and the court of appeal judgement that upheld the victory of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal at the poll dragged him and the PDP before the Supreme Court.
Ahead of the judgement today, Monday, with the tension and anxiety among their supporters, they all decided to go spiritual.
Meanwhile, the supporters of Dr Abdullahi Ganduje gathered at the Murtala Muhammad Library on Ahmadu Bello way while the Abba Kabir Yusuf group had their special supplication on the court verdict at the office of the PDP candidate.
Some communities in Sokoto State on Sunday organised special prayer sessions ahead of today’s Supreme Court judgment for the success of the state and Gov. Aminu Tambuwal.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, grand finale prayer session was led by Malam Tukur Rijiyar-Zaure to seek God’s intervention for the state and Tambuwal to be declared as the elected governor of the state by the apex court.
Also, another group of scholars and community members across the state are held a similar prayer session at the Sultan Abubakar III Juma’at Mosque for the success of Aliyu in the Supreme Court.
