ASUU-KUST Donates Sanitizers To Support Fight Against COVID-19

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil (ASUU-KUST) has donated sanitizers and disinfectants to government-owned hospitals and media organisations as parts of efforts to combat the novel coronavirus disease.

According to a statement issued by the branch Chairman Dr Muhammad Sani Gaya and sent to Solacebase on Saturday, the hand sanitizers and disinfectants were produced by members of the union-led by Engr. Faiza Ali Umar of the Chemistry department of the university.

The statement said the donation is in line with the directive of ASUU national secretariat for branches to participate in combating the disease in Kano and Nigeria at large.

The statement said while presenting the items to the University management, Muhammadu Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital, Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Wudil General Hospital and Utai Primary Healthcare the Chairperson, ASUU-KUST  Dr Muhammad Sani Gaya said members of the union are committed to supporting course to end the COVID-19 pandemic.

Comrade Gaya further stated that “it is but a time when countries are shutting down. The pandemic is truly challenging. The branch encouraged its members to publish articles in refereed journals related to the novel disease and to contribute in whatever way possible to properly manage its spread.’’

‘’Other engagements include public enlightenment for our members to discuss their research findings on electronic media. Moreover, our members are carrying out researches of high societal implications. ASUU is concerned about the wellbeing of Nigerians and its cardinal philosophy is to create a better Nigeria. The Union will work with the government and other concerned citizens to fight the pandemic. ‘’

The statement said the Vice-Chancellor, KUST, Wudil, Prof. Shehu Alhaji Musa represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration who is equally the Chairman KUST COVID-19 Committee appreciated the Union for its effort to combat the coronavirus disease.

Also, the Chief Medical Director, Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital, Dr Mustapha Shuaibu Hikima commended the Union for its proactive approach and pledged to continue to work with the Union in community development and to curtail the spread of the disease.
