The Federal Government has suspended its directive to Vice Chancellors of striking public universities and inter-varsity centres in Nigeria to enforce the no-work-no-pay rule on striking lecturers.
Solacebase recalled that the directive to enforce the no-work-no-pay rule on striking lecturers was communicated to universities in a memo dated Thursday, November 29, 2018, sent by the Nigerian Universities Commission, NUC, to University Vice Chancellors.
However, a Vice Chancellor who does not want to be named in Kano told Solacebase on Saturday that the directive to stop striking lecturers salary has been suspended.
He said the reversal directive was sent to Vice Chancellors on Friday in a circular dated 30th November by the National Universities Commission, NUC instructing them to ignore earlier circular directing them to enforce the no-work-no-pay rule on striking lecturers.
The Vice-Chancellor said same has been communicated to the lecturers.
Asked if the Federal Government has continued with the ongoing negotiation with ASUU to end the strike, the VC said that is an issue with ASUU and the Federal Government.
Also, a lecturer with one of the universities in Kano confirmed the reversal to Solacebase , noting that it was posted on the ASUU WhatsApp platform of the institution.
