Bayero University MCS class of 2021 honours lecturers, Rep member, publisher, others

The 2021 class of Masters in Communication Studies (MCS) of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) on Friday held its dinner and award night.

The event was to celebrate the successful graduation of more than 90 students for the master’s program from the prestigious department of Mass Communication of the university.

Speaking at the occasion, the MCS program coordinator, Dr Usman I. Abubakar said the class is so far the largest since the commencement of the program some seven years ago.

Similarly, a lecturer in the department who served as chairman of the occasion, Dr Abubakar Shehu Minjibir charged the celebrants to be good ambassadors of the school and the university in general.

He said, “This department has achieved a good reputation and has been in existence for the past 43 years.

“I, therefore, implore you to be its good ambassadors in your respective places of jobs and impact positively on the society.

“Education has three main components; knowledge creation, skills acquisition and primary character formation. We hope you will apply all in your lives,” Dr Minjibir added.

On his part, the immediate past Vice-chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria and a lecturer with the department, Professor Abdullah Uba Adamu said in his 41 years of lecturing in the university, he has never seen a students’ graduation reception of this kind.

He added that “I can also tell you that throughout my stay in this university for over four decades, Mass Communication is the most society-networked department in BUK.

“There is always a cordial students-lecturer relationship and even its alumni community. Please try and sustain your networks as life today is all about networking with people.”

The occasion was also graced by more than 10 academic staff from the Faculty of Communication.

Highlights of the occasion include graduation cake cutting and award presentations to Professor Abdallah Uba Adamu, Professor Umaru Pate, Dr Mainasara Kurfi, Dr Nura Ibrahim, Dr Usman I. Abubakar, Dr Ashir Inuwa, Dr Musa Labaran, Dr Hassan Ya’u, Dr Saminu Umar and Malam Mukhtar Magaji.

Others include the MCS Class Representative, Anas Jazuli Muhammad, the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the publisher of Solace Base online newspaper, Abdullateef Abubakar Jos and several members of the class for their various contributions to the success of the program.
