Benue: Two feared killed, houses burnt in communal clash

Two people were reportedly killed and another two others were shot in a communal clash that rocked the Ajetachi community at the North Bank area, a suburb of Makurdi, Benue State capital.

According to eyewitnesses, the crisis started late hours of Sunday till Easter Monday with several houses burnt down during the incident.

An eyewitness, Nura Umah, told journalists that the crisis was between Jukun and Tiv youths.

“The crisis started late hours of Sunday between Jukun and Tiv youths, several houses were burnt at Ajetachi, near the old bridge at North Bank.

“Two people were killed during the crisis, one of them (deceased ) was an okada rider, and another man who was hawking leather.

“They have buried the two people today (Monday), yesterday when the Jukuns were in the church, the Tiv people attacked them in the church and shot two people who are presently receiving treatment in the hospital,” Umar said.

Efforts to get the response of the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, were not successful as his phone rang out.
