Cholera Outbreak: Traditional leader advocates proper hygiene
Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare , Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara has appealed to residents to ensure proper personal and environmental hygiene at all times to protect themselves from the outbreak of Cholera and other related diseases.
Alhaji Usman Kankara made the call during a meeting with village heads in his palace in Ketare, over the weekend.
He directed all the Village Heads, Clerics and Communities Leaders to intensify public enlightenment to ensure proper personal and environmental hygiene in their respective communities.
Solacebase reports that this is coming on the hills of cholera outbreak killing about 60 persons in Katsina as confirmed by the state government.
The District Head emphasised the need for the communities to avoid open defecation, clean toilets at all times wash their hands before eating and after using the toilets.
Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara implored the people to mostly boil water before drinking, cook their food well, wash fruits before eating and cover their food at all times to avoid flies.
The Kanwan Katsina also advises the communities to report any suspected case of an outbreak to the nearest health care centre for prompt action.
He also advises nursing mothers to always present their children for routine immunization at all times as conducted by health officials in every community of the district.
