Coalition Emphasizes Conflict Resolution To Promote Peaceful Co-Existence

A coalition of over 19 Civil Society Organizations and Media outfits in Kano,  Voice and Accountability Platform (VAP), has emphasized the importance of Peace Conflict Resolution as a mechanism to promote peaceful co-existence among the populace.

The Executive Director, Voice and Accountability Platform (VAP), Isiyaku Ahmed stated this on Saturday at a one-day training seminar for Kumbotso Peace and Conflict Resolution Assembly on “The Roles of Community Members in Driving Peace Process”.

He said the three cardinal points that would sustain the Peace Assembly is built around Trust, Cooperation, ownership.

Isiyaku Ahmed explained that the objectives of the training are to establish Sustainable Peace Conflict Resolution Assembly to facilitates a culture of mediation and a dialogue mechanism to promote peaceful co-existence, to set scope, methodology and composition of the Assembly and define the structure, roles and responsibilities of the Assembly Members.

A facilitator at the training, Comrade Sagir Salihu Chedi said the seminar is one of the many activities being implemented by his organization under the project titled “Establishment of Sustainable Local Peace Conflict Resolution Assembly in 1 Central Senatorial District of Kano State” with support from Peace Direct and Peace Initiative Network.

He called on participants at the workshop to put to use what they learn in their efforts of resolving conflicts in the Community.

Solacebase reports that Voice and Accountability Platform is currently working with community members, stakeholders, and training 20 Peace Assembly Members to institute a “Citizens’ Peace and Conflict Resolution Assembly” to drive peace processes in Kumbotso local government area.

The training session was attended by religious and traditional leaders, women and youth groups, representatives of ethnic groups, the Nigeria Police, National Human Rights Commission, Human Rights Network, Vigilante, HISBA, Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Community and Faith-based Organizations, Media and Community members.

At the end of the training Voice and Accountability, Platform donated  working materials to the assembly to ensure the smooth operation of their activities
