Court adjourns suit challenging appointment of Oba Yoruba in Kano

A Kano High Court has ordered the service of originating summons in a suit challenging the appointment of Alhaji Murtala Alimi Otisese as Oba Yoruba in Kano through substituted means.

Solacebase reports that the plaintiffs in the suit are, Alhaji Rabiu Yusuf and Olarewaju Adegbemiliyi Ojo against the defendants, Alhaji Abdullahi Saliu Olowo(Oba Yoruba Kano), Alhaji Murtala Alimi Otisese ( Asiwaju/Igbakeji Oba Yoruba, Kano) and 16 others.

The plaintiffs are praying the court to set aside the appointment of the 2^nd defendant as Oba Yoruba in Kano by the 1^st defendant without consultation with Board of Trustees, the Executive Council and the State Executive Committee is in violation of section 14 and 16 of the constitution of Yoruba Community in Kano.

They are also calling on the court to set aside the appointment of 2^nd to 18^th defendants except for the 4^th by the 1^st defendant as chiefs and members of Oba- In-Council of the Yoruba in Kano.

The applicants similarly prayed the court to perpetually grant an injunction restraining the 2^nd defendant from parading himself as Asiwaju of Yoruba Community in Kano and as Oba Yoruba.

The presiding Judge, Justice Nasiru Saminu then granted the applicants to serve 2^nd to 18^th defendants except for the 4^th and 5^th through the 1^st defendant.

Justice Nasiru Saminu then adjourned the matter to December, 7^th,2020 for hearing.
