COVID-19 : Association Commends FG Over Reduction Of Diesel, Kerosene Prices

The Association of Distributors and Transporters of Petroleum Products, (ADTOP), on Friday, commended the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) for reducing the prices of diesel (AGO) and Kerosene (DPK) as part of renewed efforts to alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians.

The Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC) last week announced the reduction of the price of Diesel (Ago) from N178 per litre to N155 per litre while the price of Kerosene (DPK) has been reduced from N185 per litre to N160 per litre respectively.

The Zonal Chairman of the association, Alhaji Bashir Dan-Mallam, lauded the initiative during the inspection of the distribution of Petroleum products at the Kano NNPC depot on Friday.

Alhaji Bashir Dan-Mallam said the gesture would go a long way in bringing down prices of commodities and other social services especially during the Easter period and the partial lockdown on the country over the COVID-19.

According to him, “The leadership of ADTOP wants to use this opportunity to commend the Federal  Government and the management of NNPC for reducing the prices of diesel and kerosene as the singular gesture is worthy of commendation by all well-meaning Nigerians.

The Zonal Chairman said, “This is because the singular effort is coming at the time our Christian brothers and sisters are preparing for Easter while the Muslim faithful are also preparing for the Ramadan fast.’’

Alhaji Bashir Dan-Mallam called on all private depots in the country to emulate the NNPC by reducing their prices so as to contribute their quotas towards alleviating the sufferings of the common man especially during the partial lockdown of the country.

He gave assurance to Nigerians that ADTOP would continue to support PPMC under the leadership of Mr Musa Lawal and management of NNPC to ensuring steady supply and distribution of petroleum products across the country during the lockdown period to avoid scarcity as promised.

“The NNPC Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Dr.Kennie Obateru quoted the Managing Director of the PPMC, Mr Musa Lawan, saying that although there is a restriction of movement orders in parts of the country, PPMC will maintain a steady supply of petroleum products across the country as the Company has enough products in its marine and land depots that could last another two months,’’ Dan Mallam said.

“The PPMC has assured Nigerians that it has enough petroleum products in stock to go round as they prepare to celebrate Easter. They have up to 2.53 billion litres both in marine and in inland depots,” Dan-mallam said.’’
