COVID-19: Kano denies directive on schools reopening

Kano State Government on Sunday denied the rumour of schools reopening on June 14th, 2020.

Solacebase recalled that schools in Kano were shut over COVID-19 in the last week of March in line with the Northern Governors Forum decision to check the spread of coronavirus.

The State Commissioner of Education, Malam Muhammad Sanusi Sa’id Kiru debunked the widely circulated rumour on Sunday in a statement.

This was contained in a statement issued by the ministry public relations officer Aliyu Yusuf and sent to Solacebase.

The statement said the Commissioner explained that the state government is equally worried and concerned about the interruption of the academic calendar.

It stressed that the decision for the closure of the schools was inevitable due to the government’s determination to prevent the spread of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic amongst pupils/ students in the State.

‘’While pleading with the Parents, Guardians, School Proprietors and the general public to be more patient, he said that an official statement for the re-opening will be issued as soon as a final decision is reached between the Federal and State governments,’’ said the statement.

‘’Adding that State Commissioners of Education and other relevant stakeholders are currently working on a document in consultation with the Presidential Task Force on COVID – 19 to work out modalities for the re-opening in accordance with guidelines provided.’’
