COVID-19: Kano trains 852 Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors on preventive measures

Kano State Government has trained 852 Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors from the 484 wards in the state as parts of measures to curtail community transmission of COVID-19.

Executive Secretary, Kano State Private Health Institutions Management Agency, Dr Usman Tijjani Aliyu stated this in an interview with Solacebase on Tuesday shortly after the two days capacity building for the drug vendors held in the state.

 Dr Usman Tijjani Aliyu said the training became pertinent due to the important role Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors play in the delivery of health care services (drugs and medical consumables) to people in the community.

‘’They are very close to the people and in many instance they are mostly the first point of call to people while seeking medical attention for drugs and medical consumables. Hence they needed to be  train on how to protect themselves from the novel coronavirus and their clients so as to check community transmission,’’ said Dr. Usman Aliyu.

He explained that the success of the training was achieved with the support of the state ministry of health and the DFID Lafiya program.

The beneficiaries of the training, Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors appreciated the agency for including them in the scheme of such capacity building which would go a long way in positively impacting in the discharge of their health services to the people.
