COVID-19:Kwara Response Team Identifies Suspected Case In Ilorin

The Kwara State COVID-19 Response Team has identified a suspected case of Coronavirus at Agbanka, Kilanko suburb of Ilorin South Local Government Area of the state.

The discovery was made during a sensitisation and monitoring tour of the Risk Communication Team of the response team of which the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) is part of.

NAN reports that a “whistleblower” met members of the COVID-19 Risk Communication Team during the course of sensitisation and disclosed that a woman around Kilanko recently returned from the United Kingdom.

He alleged that she came to Ilorin via Lagos and had been sick since then.

According to him, the woman has been told severally to call the appropriate COVID-19 hotline, but she refused and said that her children have been mixing with people in the community.

“I saw you people in the community right now and your fliers, that’s why I quickly got across the COVID-19 team and decided to stop you now and explain,” he said.

He said the people of the community are worried over the situation.

Responding, Dr Abubakar Ayinla, the Permanent Secretary, state Ministry of Health, confirmed that the team had been alerted.

He said the response team would take necessary measures and samples required for tests.

Also speaking, Hajia Memunat Ganiyu, State Educator, Kwara Ministry of Health, said that as soon as the whistleblower hinted about the development in Kilanko area, she contacted the COVID-19 team which had started taking necessary actions.

NAN reports that the COVID-19 Risk Communication Team had earlier visited Amilegbe, Ipata, Post-office, Muritala and A-Division areas of Ilorin metropolis for the monitoring.

They also distributed fliers in Yoruba and English languages warning on dangers of Coronavirus and necessary preventive measures. (NAN)
